Nuts are incredibly rich in nutrients and flavor! The best part is that eating nuts has been linked to longevity. Nuts are great for our heart health, our metabolism, and they have strong anti-cancer properties. Some of their top nutrients include vitamin E, vitamin K, and minerals like magnesium, copper, potassium, and selenium. Plus, they are a great source of fiber and protein.
We shouldn’t go completely nuts when eating them, though. Nuts are also very high in fat content. When we eat them whole, a lot of that fat may stay with the fiber, pass along, and get disposed without us absorbing it. However, if we eat them processed into nut butters or flours, we should definitely be more mindful since a lot of that fat will end up in our body.
In this category we are including peanuts. They are technically a legume, but their nutrition profile is closer to that of nuts. As such, be mindful when eating peanut butter. Opt for chunky butter when possible, or simply eat your peanuts whole.
